Bruce Patterson, Ph.D.

 

Bruce Patterson, Ph.D., is a Research Associate Professor in the Dept. of Internal Medicine, Division of Geriatrics and Nutritional Sciences. He is also the Director of the Clinical Research Science Core Laboratory for the CNRU.

Dr. Patterson received a B.S. in Chemistry from Southern Illinois University (Carbondale) in 1974, and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois (Urbana) in 1980. He completed a post-doctoral position at the University of Florida (Gainesville), and has held faculty positions at the University of Florida, Baylor College of Medicine (Houston), and the University of Texas Medical Branch (Galveston). He joined the Center for Human Nutrition at Washington University School of Medicine in 1996.

Dr. Patterson is a Fellow of the American Heart Association, where he is affiliated with the Council on Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Metabolism, and the Council on Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology.

Dr. Patterson specializes in the application of stable isotope tracer methodology to the study of protein, fat, and carbohydrate metabolism in human subjects, and the application of mathematical modeling, particular compartmental modeling, to studies of metabolic kinetics. His specific research interests include lipoprotein metabolism in obesity and the metabolic syndrome.
